If you’ve ever stepped foot in a MUJI store, you know there’s a sense of calm the brand tries to foster. Minimal branding. Clean lines. Simplicity. So, it kind of makes sense that they’re taking a stab at retreat huts. The MUJI Hut is designed to be placed in the mountains, near the ocean, or in a garden, as it serves as a sort of tiny vacation home for the man seeking a little R & R. Able to accommodate up to four people, the hut is built from Japanese wood. To finish the exterior, MUJI turned to the ancient art of Japanese shipbuilding, as the company applied burned hardwood cladding to aid in durability. A concrete floor is easy to clean and accommodates rugs and accessories. Unfortunately, MUJI has no plans of selling the hut outside of Japan, so if you want a little dwelling for some respite, you’ll have to travel.
