Marlboro Music School and Festival Cedar Cottages

For seven weeks a year, on a campus in the scenic Green Mountains, the Marlboro Music School and Festival plays host to world-renowned and budding classical musicians. In order to have proper accommodations for artists like Yo Yo Ma, Jonathan Biss and Murray Perahia, the festival contacted HGA Architects and Engineers to design and build five cottages on the grounds in Marlboro, Vermont. The firm drew on inspiration from the 500-acre campus itself and the traditional Cape Cod style of gabled roofs and bare walls to create the cedar cottages you see here. Vermont slate covered gable roofs sit atop red cedar plank construction and meet the ground with indigenous fieldstone bases. The simple and sleek exteriors give way to interior elements like locally sourced white pine walls, Vermont slate floors, large windows and furniture / decor that make these cabins fit perfectly with the festival that The New Yorker Magazine describes as “The classical world’s most coveted retreat.”
