Delordinaire High House

Delordinaire is an architecture studio out of Paris and Montreal that builds ordinary buildings in exceptional ways. Take their High House in Quebec, for instance. Rather than build what many would consider a standard winter chalet on the ground with views of the Mont Saint Anne, Delordinaire utilized elevated stilt construction and an asymmetrical slope in the roof to create something truly unique. Not only do the stilts create a protected ground floor area (complete with outdoor stove and awesome entryway stairs) they raise the house above the tree line for uninterrupted views and sunlight all day. The house is built with white concrete panels and corrugated steel roof panels that make it blend in or completely stand out from the surrounding landscape depending on the season. The only change we’d even think about making to this superb structure is adding hardware to retract the stairs drawbridge style in case of apocalyptic incursion.
