Appareil Architecture is a Montreal-based architecture and design firm that creates stunning residences, studios and offices all over Canada. The entire firm has this unique and fascinating way of combining all the hallmarks of their structures with the beauty of the landscape that surrounds each of them in a way that allows both the man made and the natural to shine. There is perhaps no better example of this than the Grand Pic Chalet in Austin—the municipality in the Estrie region of Quebec, not the one in Texas. The Grand Pic Chalet is a combination of two separate structures, one full-size house and a smaller matching cabin, clad in a shiny black metal exterior with gable roofs. Inside, the dark and brooding exterior is perfectly contrasted with warm woods, white walls, and plenty of natural light. There are also platform decks made of cedar that connect the cabins and provide plenty of entertaining space. This would be a great place to go hide in the woods.
