Nutella Created 7 Million Unique Jars

Nutella Created 7 Million Unique Jars

Nutella, the hazelnut spread that’s suited for everything from breakfast to dessert and works atop almost anything, just completed what might be one of the coolest ad campaigns in the packaging world. In partnership with firm Ogilvy & Mather, they created seven million different designs for a run of limited edition jars of Nutella using a special algorithm. All of the jars were colorful, fun and reflected the uniqueness of the spreadable goodness contained inside. With Nutella having its own world holiday, we’d be remiss to call this a marketing stunt, because it worked. The multi-faceted campaign helped sell all 7 million jars within a month. We don’t know the average sales rates for jars of Nutella, but roughly 230,000 jars per day is impressive regardless of how you look at it. Unfortunately, seeing as how all the Special Edition Nutella containers (remember, only the packaging was different) sold out already, it’s too late to add one to your stash. Hopefully they do another run soon.
