We could go on for days about the tasty products that have rolled out of Dogfish Head over the years. From bizarre brews to musical collaborations, Dogfish Head has always been at the cutting edge of what’s possible when it comes to bottle alcohol. They’ve primarily focused on beers, even though they’ve had a distilling arm for more than a decade. That changes now with the release of Dogfish Head Distilling Co. Alternate Takes: Volume 1, Whiskey Finished in Rum Casks. That’s a lot of words to fit on a label, but the name is fitting because this whiskey has a lot going on. Playing on the musical concept of “alternate takes,” Dogfish Head experimented with alternate recipes and barrel finishes to create something unique. Ultimately, they settled on a combination of specialty malts fermented with their Doggie Ale yeast and then finished in barrels that previously aged their Barrel Honey Rum. The end result is a medium-body whiskey that’s nuanced, delicate and incredibly smooth. Dogfish Head Alternate Takes: Volume 1 is currently distributed throughout Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia.
