If you’re anything like us, you constantly keep a watchful eye on everything alcohol related that comes out of the Buffalo Trace distillery. Current master distiller Harlen Wheatley is responsible for some of our favorite clear spirits, but it’s his contribution to bourbon as a whole that makes him a celebrity, which brings us to The Last Drop Distillers and this ultra-rare Buffalo Trace Whiskey that was distilled “almost half a century ago” in 1980 at the then George T. Stagg distillery under the watchful eye of master distiller Gary Gayheart. Decades later, Gayheart’s apprentice–current master distiller Harlen Wheatley–uncovered the juice and decided to release it as part of The Last Drop offering with an age statement of 20 years. Only 240 bottles of this incredibly rare and limited release will be available for sale at 45% ABV, so if you manage to get one, consider yourself lucky.
