Maybe you’ll soon see a millionaire driving around in a Volvo box truck not because he/she appreciates its tepid performance and Fridigdaire-like handling qualities but because graffiti artist Banksy got a hold of it. What’s officially titled the “Turbo Zone Truck (Laugh Now but One Day We’ll Be in Charge)” this singular 1988 Volvo FL6 truck will go up for auction on September 14th at Bonhams’ Goodwood Revival. The truck has been hand painted by Banksy, himself, “[t]aking the vehicle of the laborer, the workman, and the blue-collar employee as his blank canvas, the present motorcar and work of art revels in Banksy’s raw and unfiltered wit; a masterclass of the artist’s satirical humour and impressive dexterity with spray paint.” At least that’s how Bonhams describes it. What we see is a rolling display of modern street art that’s about the same price as a really nice house.
