The Venice Art Biennale is an international exhibition in Venice that’s been running on odd numbered years since the late 1800s. It’s the original biennale contemporary art exhibition on which all others are based, so it’s a pretty big and prestigious deal. Which makes it the perfect kind of event for everyone’s favorite guerrilla artist to crash. In a quick video posted to Instagram and YouTube with the caption, “Setting out my stall at the Venice Biennale. Despite being the largest and most prestigious art event in the world, for some reason I’ve never been invited.” Banksy setup an illegal stall on the Grand Canal during the exhibition. He gets kicked out by the Italian fuzz in pretty quick fashion, but not before a number of people get to see his multi-frame work of a giant cruise ship utterly destroying the picturesque and quaint architecture of Venice. Fittingly, the final shots of the video depict the same exact scene as Banksy’s work.
