Looking for a new cocktail to try out this weekend? Want to wind down with a fresh new drink? We’ve got you covered. Here’s what you should drink this weekend.
Not a whole lot of fall/winter seasonal cocktails call for vibrant fruit flavors but we wanted to try out something a little different. So, we’re whipping up a few glasses of The Crimson courtesy of Misunderstood Whiskey. This spiced whiskey cocktail allows for a lovely balance of tart acidity, fresh sweetness, and some hearty spice flavor.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Misunderstood Spiced Ginger Whiskey — Not able to snag a bottle? Sub in your favorite whiskey, ideally something with a higher corn mashbill. We don’t need any super strong rye notes here.
Blackberries – Head to your grocery store and get yourself some blackberries. We are by no means in peak season but, depending on where you are, you might be able to get some relatively fresh blackberries.
Lemons – You’ll want to squeeze some fresh lemon juice for this cocktail.
Agave – You can opt for simple syrup but agave just has a much richer flavor profile and is often sweeter.
Nutmeg – If you’re able to grind your own nutmeg at home, that’s ideal. But storebought ground nutmeg should do the trick.
In a shaker, muddle 4 blackberries, 1/2 ounce of agave, and about 5 dashes of nutmeg. Add ice and then pour in 2 ounces of whiskey and 1/2 ounce of fresh lemon juice. Give it a good shake for 30 seconds and then double strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with a single blackberry and a sprig of fresh rosemary. Now you’ve got a beautiful winter-friendly cocktail.
