A Rare Game-Worn Babe Ruth Jersey Is Expected to Fetch $4.5M at Auction

A Rare Game-Worn Babe Ruth Jersey Is Expected to Fetch $4.5M at Auction

George Herman “Babe” Ruth Jr. is unquestionably one of the greatest players to have ever set foot on a baseball field. When it comes to sports memorabilia, the gear from the man with as many nicknames as seasons played always commands top dollar. According to The Sportster, Ruth memorabilia represents almost half of the the top 15 most expensive pieces ever sold. This rare game-worn Yankees jersey that’s headed to auction at Yankee Stadium on June 15th is going to push him over the edge on the list because it’s expected to fetch more than $4,500,000. One of six total “of quality” specimens known to exist–and that includes the one in Cooperstown–this grey flannel features the original “Yankees” name across the front and Ruth’s name stitched into the collar. The Hunt Auctions event also features other unique Ruth pieces like a pair of cleats, autographed photos, trophies, ledger sheets and other ephemera. A portion of proceeds from the event will go to several related charities.
