New Balance has finally broadened their horizons from athletic apparel and sneakers to open their first ever pub, The Runaway, on Charing Cross Road in London. But unlike other pubs where you pay for pints of Guinness with a couple quid, the only currency The Runaway accepts is miles run. That’s right, New Balance partnered with Strava to build a pop-up bar in preparation for the Virgin Money London Marathon that allows you to cash in your miles run and tracked in the popular app for cold, delicious beers. Each of the four challenges can be redeemed on specific dates coinciding with the marathon training for two drinks each for you and a friend for 50% completion, or three drinks each for you and a friend for 100% completion. Here are the challenge requirements and details:
Challenge 1 at The Runaway – Run 40 Miles for Pints (redeemed either February 24 or March 3)
Challenge 2 at The Runaway – Run 13 Miles for Pints (redeemed either March 10 or 17)
Challenge 3 at The Runaway – Run 60 Miles for Pints (redeemed either March 24 or 31)
Challenge 4 at The Runaway – Run 10k for Pints (redeemed either April 14 or 21)
If they opened up these kind of pop-up bars (with gyms!) stateside, we’d be much more inclined to run 26.2 miles.
