I Am the King of Cozy, and This Is My Most Worn Layer

HAVEN's Ridge Liner Fleece, reviewed.

1

I didn’t mean to become the King of Cozy. It just sort of happened.

It started with a reading nook. Researching pillows. Blankets. Chairs. Rugs. Which bled into my closet. Fabrics. Layers. Softness. Next thing I know, I’m talking about fleece the way some talk about wine. “Feel this,” I often tell my friends, extending an arm in their direction, after purchasing a new sweater. Hence, the title was bestowed upon me by those who know me best. The King of Cozy.

My coronation piece? HAVEN’s Ridge Liner Fleece.

Style Comes First

I confess. It always starts with style for me. It has to look good to feel good. And it has to look good with most things already in my closet.

The understated design of HAVEN’s Fleece makes it absurdly easy to wear. Over a tee. Under a jacket. In the city. In the woods. The dark-gray-on-dark-gray design and minimalist lines let it play nice with everything I typically wear. It’s quiet. Confident. It doesn’t ask to be noticed. Until you notice it. Then, and only then, you can’t ignore it.

The U-Neck

I’m calling it a U-neck because V feels too sharp for this design. The neck is subtle. Droops perfectly without feeling too deep V-y. It doesn’t crawl up your neck or hang too low. It’s perfect. Cozy, but not suffocating. Close, but not clingy.

The Zippers (Plural)

I wouldn’t be King of Cozy if I didn’t zoom in on the details. The double-zip design lets you fine-tune your warmth level. Zip the top for warmth. Crack the bottom for airflow. I also like how the bottom hangs when unzipped a little. Especially when seated.

There are also two side pockets and a third zip pocket on the lower chest, which has become my designated passport slot. (It feels like the kind of jacket that wants to see the world anyway.)

All the Feels

It’s the lightest, thinest layer I own. And yet, somehow one of the warmest. Explain that.

This is where the magic happens. The Polartec® Alpha® Direct fleece is hydrophobic, durable, and breathable, with a mesh-like structure that traps heat without trapping moisture.

Translation? It wears like feathers. But performs like a heavyweight.

The Verdict

At $315, it’s not the cheapest layer. But here’s the math I worked out. I wear it roughly five times more often than anything else I own, and it’ll last a lifetime. So maybe it’s not the indulgence I thought it was. Just good economics.

A Royal Proclamation

HAVEN’s Ridge Liner – Polartec® Alpha® Fleece belongs in your closet if you value style and comfort, performance and leisure.
