We take pride in bringing you the latest gear, gadgets, rides, music, etc. etc. Therefore, we felt it was our duty, even our obligation, to travel to New York City for the 2013 NY International Auto Show for the benefit of our readers. After performing an exhaustive investigation, we are pleased to present the 11 that made us drool.
1964 Porsche 911
1964 was the first year of the 911. By itself, that would be pretty slick, but this particular 911 is owned by none other than Jerry Seinfeld. The avid Porsche collector was cool enough to include this pristine model to the 50 years of 911 display.
Nissan GT-R Track Edition
For track enthusiasts, Nissan is upping the ante on its 545 hp brawler by introducing the Track Edition. Exactly 150 of these will make it to our shores. In addition to the hand-built engine, Nissan has improved the suspension, added a carbon fiber front spoiler, and sacrificed the rear seats at the performance altar.
Jaguar XKR-S GT
Based on the Jaguar XKR, the XKR-S GT made its debut in New York last week. Designed to highlight the Jaguar’s racing heritage, the GT does zero to 60 in 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 186 mph. Add in enormous ceramic brakes and a generous helping of carbon fiber and you have a serious street-legal track car. Jaguar is only building 30 of these, so if you can afford the $175,000 entry fee, hurry up.
Honda Urban SUV Concept
The Urban SUV Concept shows that function can follow form at Honda. Aimed squarely at the Nissan Juke and Kia Soul, the sophisticated Urban SUV will likely come in at a price point below the wildly popular CR-V. We especially like the aggressive front end highlighted by bold LED lighting.
Lexus LFA
We always want what we can’t have. This supercar boasts aggressive styling, 552 horsepower, and $375,000 price tag. And we can only ogle it at an auto show as all 500 production models are sold. Frown.
SRT Viper TA
While we recently highlighted the awesome features of this Viper, seeing it in person was even better. The Viper TA is not a sleeper. SRT makes no attempt to disguise the potential of the TA. It is pure and simple, balls out performance. Unfortunately, there will only be 30 of these to like.
Mercedes Benz CLA 45 AMG
The CLA 45 AMG was definitely a highlight of the NYIAS. Sort of a smaller CLS, the CLA AMG comes equipped with a 355 horsepower, hand-built turbocharged 4 cylinder with enough get up and go to clock 0-60 times around 4.5 seconds. We will be featuring the CLA AMG later this week.
Jeep Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition
Granted we don’t spend a lot of time driving on rocks, but if we did, the Rubicon 10th Anniversary would be our vehicle of choice. The Rubicon is packed with off-road equipment including Rock-Trac 4WD system, Next Generation DANA axles, and winch capability. Jeep finishes the Rubicon with a 7 speaker Alpine audio system and unique 10th Anniversary badges and seat trim.
Subaru WRX Concept
From its introduction in 1992, the Subaru Impreza WRX had been a dominate force in the WRC circuit until 2008. Making an appearance in New York was the next-generation WRX Concept. The bold styling included a carbon fiber roof, aerodynamic diffusers, and a bulged hood that will certainly appeal to rally enthusiasts. While most details are sketchy, it is anticipated that the latest WRX will have a newly re-designed 2.0 liter turbocharged engine squeezed in between the front wheels.
Hyundai Genesis Concept
The futuristic HCD-14 Genesis concept provides a glimpse into what we can expect down the road from Hyundai’s premium, rear-wheel drive sedan. Incorporating high-tech amenities such as a heads up display, eye-tracking and 3D gesture tracking in an interior that is devoid of a center console or even buttons and knobs. Power will likely come from a 429hp V8.
Corvette Stingray
Last, but definitely not least, the new Corvette Stingray was one of the most popular exhibits this year. Sporting a carbon fiber roof and hood, not so subtle updated exterior styling and a 6.2 liter V-8 with cylinder deactivation to 4 cylinders. With all 8 cylinders doing their job, expect 450 horsepower along with 450 lb ft of tire shredding torque. If the base model is not enough for you, the Z51 package adds a whole bevy of track specific features.
