As a brand, Nike has one of, if not the, most recognizable logos ever created. Long before the Swoosh would become a household icon, and even before Nike itself was Nike, Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman were still operating as Blue Ribbon Sports. A rebrand was necessary because of business things. Knight almost named the company Dimenion Six before Jeff Johnson–aka “Full-Time Employee Number One”–brought up Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. The rest, as they say, is history. The point of all of this is that Nike just released a throwback collection of Cortez sneakers called the “Shoe Dog” pack (also the name of Knight’s autobiography) that imagines variants of those other iterations of Nike that never came to be–Dimension Six and Falcon. Also in the collection is a pair with the original version of the Swoosh embroidered in red on the side. Each of the new Nike Cortez ’72 S.D. sneaker options are available right now through Nike for $120 at the link below.
