Say what you will about John Mayer, but the musical virtuoso is as equally obsessed with streetwear as he is with guitar. In a recent interview with GQ he went through a pretty comprehensive list of his current favorites, along with dropping the bomb that he was going to hijack the NIKEiD service to create an unofficial collaboration sneaker of his own. His plan was to create a unique pair of sneakers—well, as unique as you can get using the stock iD options—then buy all the pairs Nike would sell him and sell the kicks through his own online channels. The Air Max 90 AIR MAYER “Spirit Level” sneakers drop on 7/29 with an as-of-yet unconfirmed price tag. While the sneakers will be universally loved by Mayer fans and will undoubtedly sell out, they’re not going to win any awards in the design department because, well, Nike’s design department wasn’t even involved. With that said, they are a solid pair of dad trainers that just about anyone could pull off. And who knows, maybe Mayer will sign all the pairs.
