Rains Redefines Weather Gear in Scandinavian Style

In a world where functionality often comes at the expense of looking nice, Rains stands out.

Rains Redefines Weather Gear in Scandinavian Style

When I first met my Swedish wife, one of the first sayings I learned was “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.” But I didn’t fully understand its meaning until I moved to Sweden from the U.S.

After my second child was born, I decided that the days of standing in a playground soaking wet—in rumpled, kid-tested, poorly fitted all-weather gear—were over.

The brand Rains is one of my favorite Swedish discoveries. Though it’s a Danish company, it’s popular here—for good reason. Known for its waterproof outerwear and accessories, Rains strikes the perfect balance of Scandinavian aesthetics and practical performance.

In a world where functionality often comes at the expense of looking nice, Rains stands out. And now, so do I, no matter how wet it gets at the playground.

These are the Rains products in my rotation, plus a few others I’m eyeing for 2024.

The Best Rains Gear for 2024
Long Jacket

I own the dark green color, which I think goes really well with jeans and business-casual attire. It is lightweight and stylish, and most importantly, it keeps me super-dry. Like many rain jackets, though, it does lack a bit of ventilation.

Hilo Weekend Bag

While Rains is known for rain gear, the weekend bag is one of my favorite items. The colors are sophisticated; personally, I love the black and blue. They are durable and priced affordably for the quality.

Wash Bag

My toiletry bag is always around the sink, so it tends to live in a puddle. I used to use a polyester-material toiletry bag and it was constantly damp and stained with toothpaste. This waterproof wash bag is as stylish as it is practical.
