Making its worldwide debut yesterday is the BMW i3 electric car or as BMW refers to it “the Ultimate Driving Machine in a new era of Individual Urban Mobility.” The i3 has a design unlike any other yet is still distinctly BMW and is built on the concept of what BMW calls “LifeDrive Architecture.” Making up this concept are two segments—Life Module and Drive Module. Life Module is where you come in, it is the entire passenger experience. The passenger cabin is constructed entirely from carbon fiber reinforced plastic, the first of its kind in the automotive industry. And the interior, well it is nothing short of stunning. Words can hardly describe the modern, flowing interior that shares the same footprint with the 3 Series and premium materials as the 5 Series BMW. The all electric motor generates 170 hp and has a range of about 80 to 100 miles. And for city dwellers, the i3 is perfect with its small parking requirements as well as its “ultra-tight” turning radius. Available 2014.
