If anyone was going to redesign the way we think about writing instruments, it was going to be the Germans. Pencils don’t need to be a simple tube of wood filled with “lead” and capped with an ugly pink eraser that will just inevitably break off. Based on what Gerhard Wörther came up with, pencils can actually be well-designed, good-looking, precision instruments of getting your point across. For almost three decades, Wörther has been making these luxury class pencils and it shows in their quality and clean lines. Available in plastic, aluminum and regionally sourced wood, each hexagonal masterpiece is as much a pleasure to use as it is to look at on your desk. The Mercedes-Benz of pencils is a fitting description.
