If you’ve been waiting for what seems like forever for the new Toyota Tacoma to arrive, it’s almost here. Toyota just unveiled it, and there’s a lot to love. First of all, there’s a new hybrid engine available. It’s a turbo 2.4-liter four-cylinder mated to a 48-hp electric motor that’s powered by a 1.87-kWh battery. Combined output is a healthy 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. The Tacoma will continue to get two body styles: an extended cab and a quad cab. The extended cab gets a 6-foot bed, and the quad cab will have a standard 5-foot bed or an optional 6-foot bed length. The extended cab will lose its back seats, replaced by lockable storage bins. The cabin gets even more changes than the exterior with bigger touchscreens, improved materials, and better ergonomics. The biggest news of all is the addition of the all-new Trailhunter trim along with the super-rugged TRD Pro trim. The Trailhunter shares much of what makes the TRD Pro so great and then upgrades with bronze wheels, a utility bar in the bed with MOLLE mounting points, as well as a convenient on-board air compressor. Look for the new Tacoma to arrive later this year.
