The vintage aesthetics of classic arcade games have seen a rise in popularity as more and more arcade-themed bars pop up around the country. Despite their archaic mechanics, clunky machinery, and frustrating difficulty, arcade games continue to endure as a nostalgic, amusing pastime. But designer Jody del Bianco has a different vision for these retro games. The minimalist arcade cabinet concepts look stunningly modern with wooden housing and an open backing. It feels like it could belong in an old-school IKEA catalog. Functionally, this design could operate the same as any old-school arcade cabinet. There’s a flat-screen display, standard buttons, and joysticks. However, del Bianco has also added a shelf within the unit for controllers and modern gaming consoles. We’d love to see this design brought to life for the more aesthetically-minded gamers out there.
