These days, max horsepower numbers are measured in four figures and fastest speeds are factors above what can be found in nature. But a century ago–without modern technology and engineering–things were equally if not more impressive. Case in point, the 1928 Mercedes-Benz S-Type Supercharged Sports Tourer you see here. This Classic Car Club show car was a beast back in the day, and it remains so. 6,740cc OHV inline 6-cylinder engine. 2 carburetors with roots supercharger. 120 or 180bhp at 3,000rpm. 4-Speed manual transmission. Front and rear semi-elliptic leaf spring suspension. 4-wheel drum brakes. Pair those mechanical and performance specs with the absolutely show-stopping design and you have a recipe for success regardless of when it was produced. This particular 1928 Mercedes-Benz S-Type Supercharged Sports Tourer–chassis 35920 and engine 68674–has been in the care of the same family for the better part of six decades (with a few previous owners before them) but the 6.8-liter behemoth has been impeccably maintained the entire time. The family has finally decided to part ways with the 1928 Mercedes-Benz S-Type Supercharged Sports Tourer, and it’s set to roll across the block during Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction starting on August 13th with an expected hammer price of between $3mil and $4mil.
