Despite the fact there are many iconic quotes misattributed to him–“write drunk, edit sober” being the one that first comes to mind–Ernest Hemingway did a number of things in his life that plenty of us have tried to recreate in our short time on Earth. In addition to being an accomplished novelist, short-story writer, journalist, drinker, man about town, traveler, vagrant, style icon, sportsman and honestly, we could go on for days with descriptors that make Hemingway out to be more demigod than human. Despite all of that, one of the things Hemingway loved to do as much as anything else is, surprisingly, fish. That’s right, in addition to writing about fishing, Hemingway put his mouth where his proverbial prose was and actually did it. And now, his great-grandson Patrick Hemingway Adams has started a venture to bring updated versions of Ernest’s favorite fishing gear to the modern world. The Ernest Hemingway Inshore Collection includes saltwater bamboo fly rods, reels, stand-up paddle boards and other fine, inshore, saltwater fishing equipment–including an almost hundred-thousand dollar fishing boat–inspired by the man that wrote about angling in a way it had never been done before. The Ernest Hemingway Inshore Collection launches today.
