There’s nothing wrong with the Volkswagen Arteon, it’s just kind of a boring family sedan. Or at least it was, until VW unveiled the latest Arteon R Shooting Brake version. This model combines increased power with a typical lengthened shooting brake rear end that not only increases interior space, it adds some nice lines to the silhouette. The 2020 Arteon refresh also has a more aggressive front end and a new all-wheel drive system. The new AWD is of particular interest because it has “R-Performance Torque Vectoring” that can torque split between front and rear axles, along with splitting individually between the rear wheels. That means you can fly through those corners as you put the 315 hp engine to the test and the car can intelligently direct all the torque to one rear wheel to keep you planted on the road. The Arteon Shooting Brake will also be available in a 215 hp plug-in hybrid model if that’s your thing. Unfortunately, as with most shooting brakes, it’s not being released in the United States.
