The Vaer brand started back in 2015 in Los Angeles by a couple of guys who wanted to create a well-made classic everyday timepiece that would look just as good with a nylon Nato strap as it did with a handsome leather band, and they wanted it to be affordable. Since then, Vaer has made a handful of quartz models that fit the original notion behind the brand, and every model has a 100-meter depth rating, a tough anti-reflective-coated sapphire crystal, display caseback, Swiss movement, and two straps. Now, they’ve moved up the needle by creating their first mechanical automatic that just launched on Kickstarter. The 40mm diameter Vaer Automatic is a perfectly-sized field/military-style timepiece that can be outfitted with either a Japanese Miyota 9015 automatic movement or a Swiss ETA 2824 automatic movement. It’s also only 9mm thick, which means the sizing is just right to fit under a dress shirt cuff. Four dial styles are available, and you can find the right style and strap combination to suit your tastes. The campaign to fund it has well exceeded its goal with 26 days left, so you can be sure to get a solid deal on a timeless automatic watch now.
