Andy Warhol’s art might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but his taste in watches was pretty classic. Though we might have expected him to wear something like a Helbros Mickey Mouse watch, his taste was more Cartier and Rolex. In fact, his 1943 pink gold Rolex Oyster Chronographe, ref. 3525 that’s as gorgeous today as it was during his time is up for auction. Imagine Mr. Warhol painting furiously while wearing this Swiss mechanical automatic with its beautiful rose gold bezel, superimposed subdials, and that big onion crown. Christie’s auction house will put it up for sale in Geneva in May, and it’s estimated to take in $300K, far cheaper than the $105.4 million his “Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster)” painting fetched in 2013. What’s more, you can actually take this Warhol classic with you wherever you go.
