Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer Hybrid Concept SUV

Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer Hybrid Concept SUV

Mitsubishi needs something exciting in their automotive lineup now that the Lancer Evo and the Montero are gone. Here’s where the Engelberg Tourer comes in. Looking more like a sci-fi transport than a conventional SUV, this concept is named after the Swiss ski resort and looks ready to take on the rough stuff. Though there are some similarities to current Mitsu models, like the ‘Dyamic Shield’ front end and the high beltline, the rest of the vehicle looks wholly original and more futuristic. The Engelberg is powered by both an electric motor and a four-cylinder gas engine for plug-in hybrid all-wheel drive capability. The range is 434 miles, and there’s 43 miles of electric-only capability. The most radical part of the Engelberg, however, isn’t the awkward name but the vehicle-to-grid technology known as Dendo Drive House, which allows charging from a home’s solar panels and bi-directional charging so the SUV can power your home during outages. We can only hope Mitsubishi will build something even remotely close to the Engelberg, as well as decide not to use “Humperdink” as a trim level name.
