The Azure Window, aka the Dwejra Window, aka the backdrop for the wedding of Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo way back in the first episode of Game of Thrones, was an almost hundred foot tall natural arch on the island of Gozo in Malta that, unfortunately, was reclaimed by the sea in March of 2017. Hotei Russia / Svetozar Andreev Studio has plans to resurrect the Azure Window in a completely modern way. The Heart of Malta project is a multi-level building that will be built at the same location and with the same size and proportions as the original limestone arch. The faceted exterior will be made with mirrored steel faces that add a modern geometric style to the project while also setting it apart from the natural cliff it will be connected to. Inside, you’ll find 5,000 square meters of exhibition space separated into five different spiral floors that will each cover 1,000 years of Maltese history from 1000 A.D. to 6000 B.C. If Malta wasn’t already on your travel list, it should be now.
