Situated on the Coromandel Peninsula of New Zealand, Whangapoua is a small settlement of mostly vacation homes with some of the most picturesque surroundings you’ll ever experience. The only issue with the Coromandel beach site is that it exists within the erosion zone, so all buildings must be removable. Crosson Architects had to get creative when it came to creating a holiday home for its clients, so the company built this cabin on sleds. Appropriately titled Hut on Sleds, this building is designed to be towed up or down the beach to remove it from harm’s way. The surf shack/lookout tower vibe of the exterior is certainly one we can get behind. It only gets better inside because it’s more well appointed than most Airbnbs we’ve stayed in. It might only measure 40 square meters, but it can accommodate up to a family of five with its kitchen/dining/living area and two sleep areas. When Hut on Sleds isn’t being used, all the windows and doors are covered with the exterior cladding to really add to that beach castle feeling.
