Through a Different Lens: Stanley Kubrick Photographs

For as long as most of us have been alive, Stanley Kubrick has been a household name. But long before he was captivating audiences, launching careers and expanding the possibilities of what we expect from movies as a whole, Kubrick was a staff photographer for LOOK magazine. His five-year tenure at the since shuttered magazine started in 1945 when he was just seventeen years old, but the assignment and thousands of resulting photographs give you an early look at the creative genius he would eventually become. Whether it’s people at newsstands, on the street or at a boxing match, Kubrick captured everyday New York in the same way that Vivian Maier did for Chicago. And now, Taschen is making it possible to bring even more Kubrick into your home with a coffee table book that features 300 images, many of which have never been seen, LOOK magazine tear sheets and an introduction by noted photography critic Luc Sante. Through a Different Lens: Stanley Kubrick Photographs will be released in early May in conjunction with an exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York featuring the same photographs.
