If you subscribe to the Microsoft ecosystem, you’re familiar with Cortana, the company’s voice assistant. Microsoft has said they plan on bringing the technology to a range of devices and appliances in the near future, and the other day we got our first glimpse of one of those products. GLAS is a newly announced thermostat from Microsoft and Johnson Controls. It packs Cortana technology so you can change the temp by simply speaking to it. Of course, you might not need to do that often, as GLAS monitors the room at all times, knows when you’re in it, and adjusts accordingly. Running on Microsoft’s Windows 10 IoT, GLAS also has a calendar function, air quality monitor, and a sleek, touchscreen display. No word yet on pricing and availability, but if you’re a Microsoft devotee and don’t want a Nest or Ecobee’s Alexa-equipped option, GLAS may be the thermostat for you.
