By today’s standards, the Model F is a clunky brick. The old IBM keyboard that was popular right after its release in 1981 weighed just under 10 lbs. and came in a thick case. It’s the opposite of what comes with a modern Mac. Still, there are those who claim it’s the greatest keyboard ever made. One of those people is Joe Strandberg, a historian from New York who loves the keyboard for the satisfying feel and sound it produces. He loved the keyboard so much that he’s now manufacturing ones for today’s audience. Packed with IBM’s buckling spring switch technology, Strandberg’s Model F brings to mind the pleasures of typing back in the day. He’s still accepting pre-orders, so if you want to upgrade (downgrade?) your computer keyboard and snag a dose of nostalgia, hop to it.
