Olson Kundig Is Renovating the Seattle Space Needle
Whether it’s the Writer’s Cabin with Folding Walls, the Cabin at Longbranch or any of their other impressive work, Olson Kundig has been responsible for quite a few awesome builds and renovations over the years. Now, Olson Kundig is renovating the Seattle Space Needle. The $100 million renovation, dubbed the Century Project, will feature quite a few changes to the areas at the top of the needle. On the observation deck, the protective wire mesh is being removed in favor of large glass partitions that will give you completely clear 360 degree views of downtown and the waterfront outside while also improving views from inside with floor-to-ceiling windows. On the rotating restaurant level, the floor is being replaced with glass to expose the mechanisms that make it rotate, and they’re building a gorgeous spiral staircase to connect the levels. Work is expected to start later this year with the first stage slated to be completed in 2018. Start planning next year’s Seattle International Beerfest trip now.
