There are few things men take more seriously than their Christmas light displays. That list includes at least two things: Guitar Hero (or Rockband) and drinking. What would happen if someone combined all three? Fortunately for us, the universe didn’t implode, we just got Christmas Light Hero. With over twenty THOUSAND lights, seven controllers, and a serious amount of know-how, Ric Turner created a light display that doesn’t just look good, it’s playable. Turner also kicked it up a notch with the difficulty by forcing high-score bound players to use only the Christmas lights (there’s also a screen on the driveway) and no one has completed it without errors yet.
Assuming you abide by the whole “no lights before Thanksgiving” tradition, the national Best Light Display competition has only been running for a little over two weeks. Take your lights down – or don’t bother putting them up – because Ric Turner wins. Finally, a version of a music video game that you can trick your grandparents into playing. Hopefully he got a second job licensing the technology to nursing homes because his electric bill has to be enormous.
