Sustainability in watch-making is very much a real thing that many major watch manufacturers are incorporating in production. One of our favorite watch brands, Oris, does it better than anyone. The Hölstein, Switzerland brand continues down this path with its latest offering, the Big Crown x Cervo Volante. The climate-neutral company has partnered with sustainable leather goods company Cervo Volante. Cervo Volante’s watch straps are made with sustainable deer leather from the culling of 15,000 red deer in Switzerland that’s performed to protect the Swiss countryside. These hides would otherwise be discarded, but Volante uses them for their wide range of leather goods. The watch, itself, is a modest 38mm in diameter and measures 12mm thick. Dial colors mimic Swiss mountainscapes with gray, blue, and green hues with fumé gradients. Beautiful cathedral hands add to the vintage style, as do the coin edge fixed bezel and the inner calendar ring. Power comes from Oris’ 754 automatic movement that’s viewable through the sapphire display back. The watch also comes with a Cervo Volante deer leather travel pouch, more proof that Oris isn’t just thinking about watchmaking but also the world in which we all must live.
