AVI-8s pilot watches bear a unique flavor not seen elsewhere in the horological world. Their latest offering comes in the way of a limited edition of its P51 Mustang Chronograph that honors the legendary WWII Tuskeegee Airmen of the 332d Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group of the United States Army Air Forces. There are two versions, Illinois (black dial with red and yellow accents) and Alabama (silver dial with navy blue, red, and yellow), so named for the two airfields where Tuskeegee Airmen trained. As with all of AVI-8’s timepieces, this limited edition watch sports flight instrument-inspired numerals and markers, as well as bearing some of the coolest subdials that look like tiny flight gauges all on their own. A tachymeter bezel, P51 exhaust-style crown guard, slim chrono pushers, and Tuskeegee Airman highlighted text on the dial round out the case. The cushioned leather strap mimics the pilot seat of the P51. The watch is powered by a meca-quartz chronograph movement. Only 300 pieces will be made, and a portion of the proceeds actually goes to the Tuskegee Airmen Inc (TAI).
