You don’t have to pull a Jonah to get in the belly of a whale. Okay, so this one’s not alive, and it probably doesn’t smell like rotting krill inside. London Architecture firm Baca Architects designed the Australian Underwater Discovery Centre to be fun and also pay homage to the graceful whale. It’s meant to replace the existing observatory in Western Australia and brilliantly mimics a whale breaching the surface of the ocean. The interior is minimalist but offers excellent views above and below the ocean. There’s exhibition space, art galleries, and an expansive observatory floor. The plan is to have it built by December of 2022. Just don’t go dressed as Captain Ahab.
