The upcoming Destinus Hypersonic Jet wants to propel passengers at more than five times the speed of sound (1,715 meters/second). It also wants to use hydrogen fuel to reach those speeds. This should make longer international flights significantly shorter in duration. The sleek aircraft is currently in development and prototype testing and has already received funding from Spain’s Ministry of Science. A newer prototype, named Destinus-3, is coming in the year 2024. The high-tech, high-speed Hypersonic Jet certainly won’t be a conventional aircraft for the everyman. The question remains, will there be a Destinus for the rest of us?
