America has been waiting for the return of the much-beloved VW Microbus since it left our shores in the ’70s due to safety issues. Then, there was the Vanagon, which ended production for the American market in 2002. The reincarnation, in electric-only form, is known as the ID.Buzz. It’s planned for 2023 production as a 2024 model, and it will apparently come in a new “California” camper version with its own pop-up roof bed. The California will definitely be the same format as the American long-wheelbase ID.Buzz, and it will likely get a 300 horsepower electric powertrain and a 111-kWh battery. With its flat floor, capacious interior, camping amenities, and throwback look, the ID.Buzz California may just birth a new generation of hippies.
