Steve McQueen’s 1970 Jaguar E-Type

Steve McQueen’s 1970 Jaguar E-Type

The King of Cool was more than just a screen icon. Apparently, he was also a pretty generous dude as exemplified by this gorgeous Jag XKE roadster gifted to the chef on the set of the famous 1971 movie Le Mans. The chef, Fredy Zurbrügg has kept the car for over half a century since receiving it from McQueen during filming. Zurbrügg and McQueen became friends on the set, and the chef created the “Steve Steak”, especially for the film’s star and director. The irony of it all is that Zurbrügg didn’t even know how to drive at the time. He eventually got his license and put a few thousand miles on the car. The silver Jag is now up for auction and will definitely bring in a substantial amount given the E-Type’s fame as a collector’s car and bolstered by the fact that McQueen owned it. Furthermore, the car is in its original condition and has a mere 46,000 miles on the odometer. It just sold at the Bohnams Monaco auction of the weekend for a little over $114k, a pittance for a car with this history.
