Petersen Automotive Museum Luftgekühlt Prototype Giants Exhibit

Auto enthusiasts know that LA’s Petersen Automotive Museum is the car destination. Marvel at vintage hotrods and get a sneak at the latest high-profile releases from car manufacturers. The Petersen’s latest exhibit as part of its Luftgekühlt series showcases two stunning Porsche racecars. Prototype Giants puts the classic Porsche 956 and 962 on display in all their glory. The Porsche 956, built in 1982 for the FIA World Sportscar Championship, was the first racing car to feature an aluminum monocoque chassis. It would go on to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans that year.

The 962 was introduced at the end of 1984 became a legend of the racing world, winning the WSC in 1985 and 1986, the IMSA GT championship from 1985-88, the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1986 and 87, the 1994 24 Hours of Le Mans 1994, and other racing series for 10 years straight. Attendees of the exhibit will have a chance to learn the history and manufacturing of these iconic cars. A number of versions of the two Porsche racecars will be on display including the Miller High Life/BF Goodrich 962 that won the 1989 Rolex Daytona 24, the Coca-Cola livered 962 driven by Bob Akin and Hans Stuck, among others. The Prototype Giants exhibition began on August 25th and will run until November 19.
