Sadly, the multi-talented and visionary designer Virgil Abloh passed away after a secret fight with cancer. His style legacy will be felt for years, and it’s even crept into the world of automobiles. His final work with Mercedes-Benz is the Project Maybach. This EV combines the best of an SUV and a luxury coupe, and it looks like nothing else we’ve ever seen before. The concept vehicle is colored in gold and gloss black and measures nearly twenty feet in length, longer than a Chevy Suburban. There’s nothing subtle about it, from the huge hood with embedded solar cells to the array of LED rally lights and the huge tubular safari rack. Inside, the Project Maybach looks like it came straight from the set of Dune with its desert tan leather seats that fold completely flat and the myriad military-esque storage options. There’s even a huge folding touchscreen that retracts into the dash. The intricate Maybach logo is found everywhere, including the headlights, taillights, side glass, and the interior. There’s no info on the output or efficiency of the electric powertrain, but suffice it to say that this thing is definitely built for the future.
