It’s not often you see a classic Mercedes Gullwing coupe, even at auction. When you do, they’re typically in silver, white, red, or black. But this rare example clad in Mittlegrun (Medium Green) is the only one in this color that rolled off the factory floor, and boy does it stand out. Even the wheels and the dashboard are clad in the stuff. This is Chassis No. 5500263, and it was built for the American market. It has been owned by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1973 and was on display at its museum from 2015 to 2020. The car has a rebuilt, numbers-matching engine and a reupholstered interior. It’s received love and attention inside and out to bring it to its current near-perfect state. It also comes with tools, spare parts, and the factory build sheet. It should fetch upwards of over $2 million, and the new owner will surely have one of the most unique and best-restored Gullwings on the planet. Mecum Auctions will put it up for bid on March 28th, and the bidding will be furious.
