The First Ferrari SUV, the “Jerrari”

The first Ferrari SUV is not the upcoming Purosangue (poo-roh-san-gweh), but rather it’s a Frankenstein-ed vehicle from back in the day. It’s known as the “Jerrari” because it combined a 1969 Ferrari 365 GT+2 and a Jeep Wagoneer. Casino magnate Bill Harrah wrecked his 365 and wanted the surefootedness of a four-wheel-drive Ferrari. Enzo Ferrari rejected the idea as vehicular sacrilege, but Harrah went ahead and had his wrecked prancing horse merged with the Jeep. This Jerrari 1 once used the 365-hp V12 engine from the 365, which was later transferred to an actual Jeep Wagonner (Jerrari 2), but the Jerrari 1 now houses the original 5.9-liter V8 from a Wagoneer. The craftsmanship and look are actually shockingly seamless, and the 50-year old Jerrari is now up for auction with only 7,000 miles on the odometer. It even replaces the Cavallino Rampante front badge with Popeye’s “Eugene the Jeep”, as well as a “Jerrari” nameplate. The buyer will have a truly special one-off vehicle that will easily trump the Purosangue in terms of coolness.
