We didn’t think the Marquis de Sade was still alive, but he apparently is responsible for the comfort levels of current coach airline seats. Now Layer Design, in collaboration with Airbus, comes to the rescue with their Move airline seats that look visually welcoming and airy, as opposed to the modern ones that resemble Dollar Store dental recliners. The Move’s construction consists of a digitally-knitted cover that’s stretched over an aluminum and carbon fiber composite frame that’s both strong and light. Embedded in the fabric are sensors that allow the passenger to make changes in temperature, pressure, and cushioning, as well as monitor movement via the smartphone app and provide reminders for you to move and stretch for circulation. The Move can also automatically adjust to provide ideal comfort levels based on the weight, motion, and size of the passenger. There are also modes like sleep, meal-time, and massage that will place the seat in the proper configuration for those activities, or lack thereof. The tray table docks vertically and can fold in half, and there’s device charging ports, a display screen, and even a storage pocket with sensors to remind you if you’ve left something there after landing. If we can suggest a deployable divider that separates your from the resident Chatty Cathy, even better.
