House On An Island

A bit different from the similarly named Snakes on a Plane, House on an Island is more of a peaceful setting created by the award-winning architects at Atelier Oslo and built on a rock outcropping in Skåtøy, Norway. Designed as a serene getaway for two artists, this wood, glass, and concrete cabin was made to both blend into its natural surroundings, as well as stand out in terms of visual beauty. The heat-treated wood will naturally patina over time, making the house even more in sync with the nature around it. The prefabricated timber facade mimics the branches of a tree in terms of light filtering, which contributes to a calming feel inside the house where you’ll find a concrete split-level configuration with a kitchen, two bedrooms, an office, and an airy living room that contains a unique concrete mezzanine that floats a bench, fireplace, and a day bed.
