Guntu Is a Floating Hotel That Travels Japan’s Inland Sea

There are plenty of luxury options when it comes to staying on the high seas, but the newest thing out of of Japanese is completely unlike the yachts and cruise ships you’re familiar with. Guntu is a floating hotel that travels Japan’s inland sea in a combination of boutique luxury and laid back style. The floating resort drifts from island to island with only enough space for the people staying in the 19 different rooms on board, and though the number of rooms is small, the amount of amenities is not. The exclusive experience is punctuated with beverages, meals and experiences from a traditional tearoom and an outdoor cocktail bar to restaurants helmed by renowned chefs including Kenzo Sato of Shigeyoshi in Tokyo and Nobuo Sakamoto of Nobu in Awajishima. Guntu never makes landfall, so day trips and adventures require being tender ferried to and from the islands. Because of the limited amount of space on board, this is one vacation you’ll want to plan in advance.
