The Sleekest Suitcases for 2024 Travel

1

You don’t realize quite how game-changing a nice suitcase is until you have one (or until your cheap suitcase gives out on you). Honestly, it can be the difference between a smooth sailing holiday and a travel day from hell. And while we all may aspire to sport a solid aluminum Rimowa set (guilty!), investing in durable, good-looking luggage doesn’t have to set you back thousands.

Personally, I spent my early twenties lugging around a crusty old suitcase I found in my friend’s garage. And while I must say it built character to use (and be seen with) that less-than-desirable airport accessory, I was very ready for something new.

So I made my way down a rabbit hole of travel gear, reading hundreds of reviews and testing multiple models. I narrowed it down to eight pieces of luggage that tick all the boxes: style, storage, and durability. All have their strengths and weaknesses depending on what you’re looking for. As for me, I went with Paravel in the end. I’m a sucker for aesthetics, and I just think it’s so damn pretty.

What to Look For in a Suitcase:
  • Size:

The standard carry-on size limit is 22 x 14 x 9 inches (including the handles and wheels). The standard limit for checked bags is 62 inches total. Beyond that, most airlines will classify it as oversized, usually resulting in an extra fee.

  • Weight:

For checked bags on domestic economy flights, 50 pounds is the standard limit. The lighter the suitcase’s frame, the more you can pack without going over. Luggage under 12 pounds is good, and under 8 pounds is exceptional for a standard checked bag.

  • Warranty:

Opting for luggage with a warranty is really the way to do it. Most high-end luggage brands will include one of at least three years, but If you’re really spending the big bucks ($800+), a lifetime warranty should be a given.
