Before Uber hits the skies with flying cars (yes, this is planned), they’re hitting the open waters with ScUber, the world’s first ridesharing submarine. More for vacation exploration of the Great Barrier Reef than Venetian door-to-door post-party transportation, the two-person sub provides untrammeled views of ocean life via its domed capsule. ScUber will offer its services in Australia’s Gladstone, Cairns, Palm Cove, and Port Douglas via the Uber app. Uber plans to donate $100,000 to Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, as well as the equivalent of all rideshare fees during the May 27th to June 18th limited run of the sub. There’s also a spectacular contest for international riders to win a five-night trip to Queensland, Australia and access to ScUber for the trip of a lifetime. Just try not to say, “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!” if you happen to win.
