As much as we love the boxy Volvos of old, the Swedish car brand is fast-forwarding in a big way. As the first entrant in their electric ‘Recharge’ line, the 2020 XC40 Recharge is the brand’s first EV, ever. Styled similar to but slightly edgier than its gas-powered brother, the XC40 Recharge gets a 78 kWh battery pack mated to a 300 kW powertrain made of two 150 kW motors for the front and rear axles) for a range of over 250 miles. It’ll also torque itself to 60 mph in a very quick 4.7 seconds and top out at 112 mph. The XC40 will also be able to receive many software updates over the air. No pricing has been revealed, and we don’t know the release date yet, but this is a new and very exciting chapter for the Volvo brand who claims electrification is their future. We just hope the XC40 Recharge gets the option for the very cool Orange Lava carpeting.
